JEOL Announces Impact of Disaster in Japan
In the aftermath of the devastating earthquake and tsunami in Japan,
JEOL Australasia Pty. Ltd. has learned from our headquarters in
Akishima, Japan, just outside of Tokyo, that JEOL employees
and their families are safe. This includes those working in
the Sendai sales office as well as those in the Tendo factory
in Yamagata Prefecture. Our two manufacturing facilities both
in Akishima, Tokyo as well as Tendo did not sustain any
significant damage.
Public transportation has been disrupted and many of our
employees are finding it difficult to commute to the factory.
Scheduled blackouts are also making it difficult to maintain
normal operation. The extent, short term, on JEOL's immediate
ability to ship equipment and parts will depend in part on how
quickly the country's availability of electrical and
transportation services can be restored.
We appreciate your understanding of this situation and
apologise for any inconvenience or disruption that you may
encounter. Please be assured that JEOL is utilising all
resources in order to provide you with continuous support.
According to Mr Gon'emon Kurihara, President of JEOL Ltd.,
"Japan is in a national disaster; however we will overcome
this by all means!" His reassurance is indicative of the
nature of a nation of people who are disciplined, accustomed
to overcoming difficulties, and who maintain a high work
ethic.
Our sympathy and prayers go out to all those affected by
the devastation.
